The Longest Day: A Swan’s Solstice

Yesterday was June the 21st, the longest day of the year; the Summer Solstice. The day with the most sunshine and the official commencement of Summer according to the Gregorian Calender. Exactly six months ago, I visited the infamous ‘Swan Lake’ with the hopes, dreams and aspirations of coming face to face with; well you guessed it, a Swan. I was eager to see one in the wild, just chilling in its natural habitat, away from the grind of everyday city life . I had only previously seen them in captivity. Well as it turned out, I didn’t get to see any swans and was rewarded instead  with  a chance to see many, many geese. I was happy none the less . But Swan Lake kind of felt incomplete without the Swan part to me.

So, I decided to re-visit Swan Lake in pursuit of those ever-so-elusive swans and I thought to myself “What better date to pick than the longest day of the year itself;  more sun, more fun !” I knew it was going to be a long hike ; so I got my old grungy backpack and started filling it with the most random things you could possibly  imagine. Because you never know when that unopened can of red kidney beans will come in handy…

Swan Lake Risorgimento

So it’s only been 3 years & 9 months since my last post. Okay, maybe I’ve been slacking a little . Okay, maybe I’ve been slacking a lot. But hey,  better late than never !

Just the other day, I walked to a little place outside called “Swan Lake Boulevard”. Now when you go to a place with a name like that,  obviously you would expect to see a swan or two . Much to my dismay i didn’t get to see even a single swan. On the bright side though, I did get to observe their close relatives : Geese! In astoundingly large numbers I might add .

Tiny bite on the BIG Apple

Did you ever go  to Miami ,Florida for your spring break ? Well I sure as hell didn’t. Instead I opted to go to the big city . “What the hell is wrong with me?  Why on earth would I go to NYC when I could relax under the sun, on a warm sandy beach ,with my binoculars ready to scout out that gorgeous bikini-clad damsel in distress? ” These were but a few of the many questions I asked myself before I embarked on my voyage to the city . To my surprise , I actually had the best spring break ever ! (keeping in mind that this was my first spring break ever) .

I could describe NYC in one word : Fantabulous ( and yes i spelled it right) . A fantastic cluster of homo-sapiens , each with a unique story to tell, living their lives in a concrete jungle that stretched to the sky , full of glory and the smell of coffee , absolutely fabulous in every aspect; altogether would basically sum up my description of the city as a mere tourist’s interpretation .
